I am very slacky on the blog lately. Pretty much anything that is not work, sleep, or food hasn't been getting done. Which makes me sad :( Working full time, especially morning shifts where I have to be up at 4:30, are very hard on me! I am hoping to get a good schedule that affords me some sleep soon, and then I will be able to catch up on the things that I enjoy. For now, here is what I wear to work all the time (or a black polo instead), topped off with a Starbucks apron. I did work my first MAC event yesterday, so more coming on that later ;)

"Sexy Coal Miner"

I don't normally wear this style of clothing, as I am usually a dresses and ruffles type of girl. I wanted to try something different, and I couldn't resist this romper/overalls combo! My friend Simone dubbed this outfit as "sexy coal miner" hahahaha. I thought it was a perfect description, and it reminded me of when he works in the coal mind in Zoolander! Driving Glasses!

I have been having a hard time seeing far away lately, so I decided to go to the eye doctor. Turns out I was right about my eyes, and needed glasses for driving and other long distance activities! I got a cute pair of Tiffany (!) glasses that I'm very pleased with. I keep making the joke that it's the only Tiffany box I'll ever own, but it's probably true! The dress I wore that day is made from a parachute pantsuit I found that the thrift store, and cut off. I love it now!

On days when I really want to feel cute, but am having a hard time, I resort to a few choice outfits. This is one of them! My old standby boots that are probably my most treasured clothing item, my tight ripped jeans, and my comfy and cute leopard cardigan. I know according to my coloring that we studied in Aesthetics school, I'm not supposed to look good in black or grey. But I'll never stop loving black! It's my number one sweetheart! :)

Mom's Birthday & Magic Wrap

My mom's birthday was on August 24th, if that lets you know how much work I've been doing! I rarely get more than one day off in a row, and I'm working full time hours with no benefits. It kind of sucks, but I really need to save up money for that move to L.A. next year! Anyway, for mom's birthday, we just went to dinner and I brought her some presents. Low key, but it was nice to be just the two of us as usual! I also included the outfit I wore the next day, which included another of the magic wrap dresses I bought in Savannah. I wore the first one as a dress, and this one as a skirt. I'm obsessed. I think I want to learn to make them and sell them on etsy!

Savannah Style

Recent Makeup Looks

Sometimes I will get bored late at night, and create a crazy makeup look just for fun. That's exactly what the two pictures directly below are. Just some experimentation with bold colors, contouring, and brows. The rest of the photos are just everyday makeup looks that I have worn recently.

I filled in my brows with a dark blue shadow to create an alien look, as well as contouring with several different shades of pink on my face and cheekbones. I dotted bright purple in the center of my lips to change their shape, as well.

I also couldn't resist adding a fake purple mole :)

While this title could describe my new haircut, it could also describe me :) As I am 5'3", that is. Also, when I was uploading these pictures, I noticed that I have been wearing a lot of animal print lately. I am okay with this! I love my hair, I just wish I could style it like the pros do. You'd think as a makeup artist, I would have some idea of how to at least style my own hair... but nope. I am hair retarded. Orange & Blue (plus, I graduated!)

I can't believe I'm just now getting around to posting this, but I finally had my graduation ceremony from Aesthetics school a few weeks ago! I completed my program in May, but they combined the summer semester with our class, so we all graduated together. This particular weekend was a great one for me, as I was hired on at Starbucks and landed a second interview at MAC (where I also got the job, yay!). I can only hope that bigger and better things are to come, as I have my foot in the door of my dream profession, a makeup artist. Thank God!

Sugar and Spice

I wore a sweet, 50s style house wife dress to brunch with my mom, and a rockstar ensemble to my friend's music video shoot. Both days were super fun! I always enjoy dressing up and going to brunch/shopping with my mom on Sundays. We went to our local favorite, Easy Bistro, and then to TJMaxx for some shopping. The music video was for my friend Mitch and Mikey's band, Opportunities. I played the part of one of a group of girls whose car breaks down, and gets picked up by the guys and taken to a party. It was hilarious! I'll post a link when they release it :) I also did all of the other girls makeup for the shoot, but unfortunately didn't get a good picture of it.

I am so behind! All my last minute summer vacation has piled up my photos and so much has happened since I took these. I now have two jobs (I start at Starbucks tomorrow!). Cape Cod Style

I am just now getting around to posting my vacation pictures! We were in Massachusetts for 9 days, with 8 of them being in Cape Cod. One glorious day was spent in Cambridge/Boston, and we also stopped over in Connecticut for one day on the way home. This was all very exciting to me, as I had never been to that part of the country. It is quite different from the South, in weather and in culture. The town we stayed in, Chatham, is very clean, safe, and rich. I didn't see one homeless person the entire time, which was odd. The houses are all quite similar, being the Cape Cod style. There was a cool breeze even on the warmest of days. It was very nice. I enjoyed it quite a bit, with Cambridge being the highlight of my trip. I can't wait to go back!

Pre-Vacation Outfits

Since I only have a few photos of each of these outfits, and none of them are spectacular, I decided to just combine them. I got a bit behind, since I was gone for nearly two weeks. Also, good news! As of today, I am an official Starbucks employee :) That unfortunately means less outfits, but also more money! I am happy to be employed, especially at a place that I already frequently visit.

I wore this out to dinner with my mom the night before I left for Cape Cod. We ate at Table 2, a nice restaurant downtown, and it was absolutely delicious.

Stealth Lingerie

Hello! I'm back from my vacation to Cape Cod, and will be back to regular posting now. I have a ton of cool pictures from that to share soon as well. But first, outfits from before I left! I wore this to an outdoor concert downtown in 100 degree weather, and made the mistake of not eating before we went. I am hypoglycemic, making that an even stupider decision. Needless to say, I ended up getting sick and having to go home, and missed our friend Tim's island birthday party :( You'd think I'd learn after all these years, but noooooo. Oh well, I'll wear the outfit again sometime. The top is actually from the lingerie department at Forever 21, but I pulled the skirt up so it didn't show my stomach!

Thrift Store Magic

I went to my favorite thrift store not long ago, and found a bunch of new wonderful items that I'll be wearing in the weeks to come. One of them was this dress, which started out as a massive muumuu type sack, and I turned it into a stylish sundress. I don't think there is anything more satisfying than paying $3 for an item that turns out to be unique and fashionable after just a few snips! I just adore thrifting!

Unofficial Celebration

My boyfriend and I had a LivingSocial coupon to use, so we decided since it was our 1 year and 4 month anniversary, we would use it for an unofficial celebration. We celebrated every month up until a year, and we still tell each other every month on the 17th that it was the best however many months of our lives :) I still feel incredibly blessed and happy, and I can't imagine spending my life with anyone else.

Another Mom Date Day

Harry Potter Release Party

To celebrate the release of the last (sob) Harry Potter movie, my good friend Simone and I threw a themed bash, complete with snacks inspired from the books. We cooked all day, enjoyed the food with some of our friends, and went to the midnight premiere. It was amazing and perfect, as expected, and I can't wait to go see it again!

Homemade Butterbeer! We made butterscotch sauce on the stove, and poured cans of cream soda over it.
Fire Whiskey, for the alcohol drinkers (not me!). This was a mix of cinnamon whiskey and Apple Snapple. I tasted it, and it was surprisingly very good. Soft of like a cinnamon candy.
Pumpkin Pasties, which were pastries filled with a baked pumpkin mixture. These took longer to make than they were worth! Along with the Treacle Tart, which turned out very strange :(
Golden Snitches that Simone made out of chocolates, paper wings, and edible gold dust!
Simone's vegetarian Hufflepuffs- made from puff pastry, cheese, and spinach.

Bob's (Simone's husband) contribution of manly Half-Giant Dip, inspired by Hagrid. It's a sausage, beef, garlic, and Velveeta concoction, served with chips. I couldn't stop eating it!

I did a few of my favorite things this past week, all in one day. My mom and I ate at a new Mediterranean restaurant downtown, and then sat outside at Starbucks and sipped yummy drinks. It was quite nice. I always love going to dinner or brunch with my mom, I'm a total Starbucks fangirl, and sitting outside in the summer evening is just divine. I really wish summer was year-round. I know many people don't share that sentiment with me, but I am a true Southern Belle!

I think if I were to ever be on a reality show, it would either be about my obsession with my cat, or my mild hoarding problem. The wedding dress is a $50 thrift store gold find, I spotted it and couldn't pass it up. It's vintage, and I plan on selling it as it's a bit too big for me (and has long sleeves). Plus, I'm not even engaged so I don't need a wedding dress quite yet!

I felt like I dressed like a ray of sun this day, even though I didn't feel like it. My life as of late has consisted of lots of boredom, since I can't seem to find a job in my field. All of my friends and boyfriend have jobs, so I spent quite a bit of time alone. It makes me sad, but I am trying to be optimistic that I'll get a great job opportunity soon. On this particular day, my boyfriend and I spent the day with a friend and went to a random pool. You'd think that would be exciting, but it really wasn't...haha. At least I was with my sweet Jason :)

Summertime Cookout

One of the many, many reasons why I love summer is because I get to grill out with my friends. The pavement is warm, the food is delicious, and the company is the best! I cooked out with my boyfriend and our friend Simone last week. I made the food super simple, and Jason grilled away.

All I did for this delicious spread was drizzle green onions, chicken, and sweet potatoes in olive oil, salt and pepper. When the chicken was nearly done, we coated it generously in hoisin sauce. The sweet potatoes got a coating of sesame oil and seeds at the end. That's it! Healthy and yummy.

I wanted something super comfortable and casual to wear, since I had a cold. I changed into the shorts when we came inside.

4th of July

I do believe my posts have gotten a tad out of order. I tried to clean up my desktop, and moved my pictures into some folders, and I forgot where some of them were temporarily! Oops. This first outfit is from the 3rd of July, when my condo had a cookout and fireworks viewing party. My mom, her friend Debbie, Jason and I ate free food and enjoyed the entertainment.

You know when it's the middle of the summer, and you have to shave your legs every day since all of your clothing is tiny? Well, I didn't feel like being summery a few days ago. I went with some skinny jeans and a t-shirt. This is very unlike my usual style, but I like to mix it up a bit sometimes.

Fashion Shoot Makeup

My friend Lesha asked me to do makeup for a fashion shoot she was doing last week, and of course I agreed! I got to do two different looks on the gorgeous Susannah, and it was easy because she's so lovely. It was really just variations of the same look, but I had a lot of fun staying for the whole shoot and touching her up when she needed it.

She was wearing a pretty flowered strapless dress in this part of the shoot, and Lesha took photos of her outside in a flower garden. So lovely and romantic! I had originally done her dramatic eyes to go with an edgier outfit, but she loved them so I just changed her lip from bright red to hot pink.

Hot Pink lipstick- Sephora Collection Lipstick #01 and Lip Fusion lip plumper
For the last part of the shoot, she changed into a simple black dress and some fire engine red heels, so I flipped her lip color back to the bright red.

Eyes- MAC Silver Ring, Carbon, Jeanius in Stovepipe Black, and Nylon.

Lips- MAC Ruby Woo with Lipglass in Sun Ray on top.

Cheeks- MAC Style Demon

For my makeup, I went matching with my outfit, and did bright green and hot pink.

Nothing is new about this outfit, in that it is all either vintage, thrifted, or discounted. I guess that is the case with most of my outfits, but usually I include at least one Forever 21 item. I wore this to my friend Sarah Jane's board game party, which was a complete blast. Headbandz is my new favorite game!

My eyes were violent red in the above photo, and wouldn't edit out, so I went crazy and added a nebula...hahaha

Makeup Look: Fire Fairy

My oldest friend aka basically my sister, Ashley, allowed me to do some dramatic makeup on her the other night. I didn't take pictures as I went, but I did get some shots of the final look. The fiery colors on her tan skin reminded me of a mythical creature, so I went with fire fairy. She has such beautiful skin!

On her eyes- MAC Chrome Yellow, Orange, and the red is from Coastal Scents 120 Palette.
Her lips are MAC Morange, and the blush is Tarte in Tipsy

I added some MAC Pigment in White Gold on top of the blush along her cheekbones, and under her brows for an extra dramatic shimmer.

Cat Eyes and Cameos

I spent the day at the pool a few days ago, and didn't feel like blow drying my hair. I put it into a bun, and right before I went out, pulled it over into a side ponytail. It actually turned out looking more styled than if I had washed and dried it! I matched my outfit around my romantic hairstyle, and called it a day.

Makeup Tutorial: Barbie Pink

I decided to do a step-by-step tutorial with pictures this time, as it will be easier to follow :) I might try a video next time, if I don't get too embarrassed!

I started out by applying a primer (Bare Minerals Prime Time) to my entire lid, and letting it dry. I then applied a layer of shimmery light pink eyeshadow, such as MAC Seedy Pearl.

Next, I applied a highly pigmented hot pink shadow (MAC Swish) to my crease, and made sure to deposit the color densely. It looks strange before you blend it, but I promise it will look better. I use MAC #239 eye shader brush for this, and pretty much any eyeshadow application. It's my go-to brush!
Next, I blended the hot pink and light pink shadows thoroughly, adding more light and dark as needed to create a gradient. I also added a off white highlighter under my brow (MAC Nylon). I use MAC #213 fluff brush for highlighting.
I then used a stiff brush, wetted, and matte black shadow to create eyeliner. I prefer MAC #266 small angle brush for eyeliner, and MAC Carbon eyeshadow. You could also use a stick or wet liner, but I prefer the control that the shadow and brush gives me. I also added a very thin black liner along my lower lashline.

To finish the eyes, I applied two coats of mascara on top, and one on the bottom. Maybelline Great Lash is my pick for mascara. Cheap and classic!
I then blended MAC Pro Longwear concealer under my eyes, and MAC Studio Fix foundation on the rest of my face using a foundation brush. I do any wet foundation with my MAC #190 foundation brush. I set the foundation with MAC Mineralize Powder using a MAC #182 buffer brush.
I completed the look with shimmery pink blush (MAC Style Demon) and hot pink-purple lipstick (MAC Pink Plaid).

I decided to dress in a cheerful yellow for Father's Day this year. Yellow from head to toe, even my eyes! I had dinner with my dad (of course), half brother, and grandfather. We ate at a hibachi restaurant, which usually I don't prefer, but at least they didn't throw egg down my dress again. Gross.

My latest color craze is mint/seafoam green. When I find a color I like, I can't resist wearing multiple items in that color. Here, it's the tunic of course, my necklace, and my eyes. I would have taken a picture of my eyeshadow, but it was a tad more bold than I wanted it to be.

Festival Dress

My city has a music festival every summer that is frankly too hot and crowded for me most of the time, but I wanted to see The Beach Boys, so we attempted to go. I tried to dress as coolly and comfortably as possible, but it turns out it wasn't necessary. We couldn't find a parking spot anywhere, so we just gave up! I did end up going later on in the week, for the fireworks.

Self Tanners

Last time I posted, I called attention to my tan, which is fake! I have used just about every self-tanner there is, so I figured I would review them, in order from worst to best.

7. Loreal Sublime Bronze Luminous Bronzer- This makes you very tan, very quickly. Unfortunately, it also is quite sticky and can smell up a room with that tell-tale, "fake tan" smell.

6. Clarins Self Tanning Instant Gel- Now I know a lot of girls that swear by Clarins products, but I just don't agree. While the color produced by this tanner is very natural looking, the drying time is just not worth it. By drying time, I mean it never really dries and you feel slimy for an entire day. It doesn't smell very bad, though.

5. Clarins Self Tanning Milk- Nearly the same as the Gel, but slightly less gross sticky feeling. Very slightly less.

4. Neutrogena Micro Mist Airbrush Tanner- I love how this one smells, but it was gone in 3 uses. Also, when you apply it, you had better be outside or else risk not being able to breathe for a long while. The color is nice if you can apply it correctly!

3. Tan Towels- These are extremely easy to use, and dry almost instantly. They don't smell disgusting, either. However, the color is so light it's almost not worth it. I would highly recommend these to very pale girls just starting out with sunless tanning, for a subtle result.

2. Loreal Sublime Bronze Self Tanning Gelee- I used this all the time for the past few years. It looks great, doesn't feel terribly sticky, and doesn't leave my skin parched. The only drawback to this one is the inevitable tan smell (though not horrendous), and the glitter. Yes, the glitter. Why is that necessary? I wish it would go away.

1. Loreal Sublime Bronze Self Tanning Towelettes- This is my go-to tanner for now. The color is almost perfect, the smell is nominal, and the ease of application can't be beat. I only wish that it moisturized my skin a bit more, so I wouldn't feel so dry after applying.

Does anyone else have a self tanner that they swear by? I am always taking suggestions!

Easy Season

There are many, many reasons why Summer is by far my favorite season, and one of them is the ease of dressing. It took me all of five minutes to throw on this dress and some chunky accessories, and be ready to go. This dress belonged to my friend Ashley, and I acquired it at our last swap party. I have become more fond of animal print as of late, and find myself buying more and more cheetah-like pieces. I combined two of my favorites, this dress (from Walmart!) and peep toe flats. Since I wasn't wearing heels, I didn't feel overdressed for a friend's casual birthday dinner. I wish I would have gotten to wear this outfit longer, though! It's comfortable in addition to cute, I think :)

MAC Dame Edna in Wisteria

This is the inspiration chart I used, but I don't think I used any of the products that are listed on the sheet. I used similar ones, which is what you can do if you decide to try this look. All you really need to do is get the colors close to the picture, and it turns out great.

For the eyes, I started out with a primer. I use Bare Escentuals, but any eye primer will do. Next, I lightly applied a blue cream shadow to the outer half of my eyes, just to make the color brighter. I then applied MAC eyeshadow in Electric Eel (or any bright blue) on my crease and slightly above, out towards the corner of my eye. On my eyelid, I applied a light pink loose shimmer, and blended it with the blue. I also put the shimmer in the corner of my eye, along with an off white solid shimmer (MAC Nylon). I lined my eyes with solid black (MAC Carbon), and lined the bottom with the bright blue. I lightly swept an off white shimmer under the brows, and blended. Lastly, I put a very bright purple under the blue liner on my bottom lashes. I used a bright shimmery purple from my Coastal Scents palette. Two coats of Maybelline Great Lash finish the eyes.
I apply my foundation and concealer after my eyeshadow, so the fallout from the shadow will not stick to my skin. I use MAC Studio fix, and set it with MAC Mineralize Skinfinish. I then conditioned my lips with classic Burt's bees, and applied MAC Venomous Villains in Maleficent. The cheeks are a shimmery dark pink blush, MAC Style Demon.

I guess I'll have to drive down there to get my hair done now! I know I'll be going to visit her a lot, we already have a fun girl date planned! Her going away party was fun, but sad too. The orange lipstick is my new obsession.

Trying New Things

I had an interview for the makeup counters at Belk a few days ago, and I wanted to look professional yet fashionable at the same time. I went with black, because that's a universal color for makeup artists and it looks conservative. I jazzed it up with some bright orange jewelry and lips. I had my second interview today, and I have one more phone interview to do. Wish me luck, I really want this job!

I went to lunch with my boyfriend, and to run some errands, and threw on a quick outfit. I kind of liked it, but I just felt something wasn't right about it. I think it was mostly because it was uncomfortable, due to the off the shoulder shirt and skirt that was too big. Since I am a makeup artist, I rarely am seen without makeup on. This was one of those rare occasions where I don't wash my hair after the pool day, or put makeup on. By the way, my tan is completely fake, courtesy of Tan Towels and SPF 100! After aesthetics school, I can't help but want to protect my skin forever. You won't catch me in a tanning bed!

Beale Street Music Festival

I made a rather questionable decision when I agreed to go to a music festival 5 hours from my home, the weekend before my final exam. The first 2 days of the fest were okay, but the last was torturous. I couldn't study, as I had no books or internet access, and I was stuck alone at a festival while the people I was with went to see a band I don't like. We didn't get home until 4 AM, so I got 2 hours of sleep before my final. Like I said, bad judgement call on my part! Anyway, here's what I wore.

Skills USA

A few months ago, I was selected by my instructor to be the competitor in an Aesthetics/makeup competition called Skills USA. At first, I was excited, but as I prepared for it I began to realize that I would probably throw up on myself in front of those people. I'm ashamed, but I decided at the last minute to trade places with my model, and be the model for her instead. I'm glad I did, because even without being the competitor it was one of the most time consuming and stressful things ever. Ellee and I both wished we hadn't even signed up! Oh well. We did end up coming in second place, and that was just fine with us :)

I went out for a delicious brunch and antique/vintage shopping with some friends a few weeks ago, and I've been dying to go again ever since! We had such a great time, and I was so happy for the chance to spend time with my girls and to dress up :) We felt absolutely like the Sex and the City girls this day. The dress was left to me by my grandmother, and is one of my favorite pieces in my closet.

Goodness me, I'm behind! I have been extraordinarily busy with a competition for school, Skills USA. I was originally the competitor chosen for this by my school, but I was so overwhelmed with additional school work that I traded places with my model. I helped her develop a routine for the facial, and a makeup look. I wrote the description for our look, and kept her calm. And then I modeled for her, which took three straight days at the trade center and basically no sleep! So I feel like I did my part :) Pictures from that coming soon!

This past weekend was so busy and wonderful! Following Palate 2 Palette (where I was an Avatar) I did some hair modeling for a local salon. The reason I am dressed so boring is because they specified what we wore, since it was a Bumble & Bumble class. The amazing hairstyle they did on me is called Victory Rolls, and it is from the 1940s. I loved it! I could not brush my hair at all the next day, however. It was pretty comical. P.S. my necklace says "cupcake"!

I wore this outfit to meet with the director of an event to discuss doing makeup for them. I not only ended up doing makeup for the event (my own body), I also modeled for it. We had another amazing makeup artist, Apryl, help us out with our faces, but all the models ended up painting their own bodies. I was painted as an Avatar/Na'Vi for this charity fundraiser, and basically spent all day there helping out and then enjoying the event. I can't wait to do more modeling and freelance makeup! It definitely fired me up :)

Yesterday was the one year anniversary of my sweet Chris' death. I will not go into that, because it's personal and depressing, but if you know me you know who he is and the situation. It was only appropriate for me to be with Jaz, since we were Chris' two closest girls, so we spent the night running errands and then having a bonding fest between us and my roommate. It definitely cheered me up :) I love my friends.

Sucker Punch

My boyfriend and I have been looking forward to seeing Sucker Punch for a long time, so we went to the midnight showing on Thursday. I decided to dress slightly themed, hence the dark eyes and tough girl look. The movie was great, with gorgeous girls, perfect makeup, awesome action scenes, and a unique plot. However, it has one of the worst endings I have ever seen! But I would recommend seeing it for the costumes and makeup alone.

I am lucky (luck of the Irish, no doubt!) to have met the love of my life one year ago, and to be able to celebrate our anniversary on St. Patrick's day! We actually met for the first time 2 days before that, at a Muse concert, but the 17th was when we became inseparable, and knew we were meant to be :) We ate at our favorite restaurant, Bald Headed Bistro, and then went out with friends to the same bar we met up at last year. I am such a lucky girl, I don't even need a four leaf clover, because I've already gotten my wish :)
